DESCRIPTION
The road is as beautiful as the destination, as you will pass through a beautiful landscape typical of the Andes between hills, high mountains, llamas, alpacas and vicuñas. The climb is not easy, but the reward is a fantastic view of the turquoise lagoon that contrasts with the snow of the glaciers. Around the lake you can see small stone towers: they are the apachetas in honor of the lake and the mountains that are elements considered sacred by local communities. Here, offerings are also made to Pachamama, often with three coca leaves, a set called Kintu that represents the three worlds of Inca mythology.
Visiting Lake Humantay in Peru means discovering a turquoise lake in the Vilcabamba mountain range, formed by the melting of the Humantay (5,473 m) and Salkantay (6,270 m) glaciers. It is one of the natural wonders of Cusco, accessible by a short hike in a beautiful setting among llamas, alpacas, hills and streams.
If Humantay used to be visited only by those who did the Salkantay trek, today it can be reached in one day from Cusco, as can the Mountain of 7 Colors and the Palccoyo Mountain.
ITINERARY
DAY 1: CUSCO - HUMANTAY LAGOON
Our guide will pick you up from your hotel at 4 am, we will board the bus for a trip of approximately 2 hours to the town of Mollepata, in this place we will enjoy breakfast, then we will continue the trip to the community of Soraypampa (3875 meters above sea level) where the walk of approximately 1 hour and a half at a medium pace begins. Along the way we will enjoy the snow-capped mountains, the freshwater rivers, the colorful nature very typical of the place.
After enjoying the morning at Laguna Humantay we begin the return trip, but not before enjoying a delicious lunch in Mollepata. We will be in the city of Cusco at approximately 7:00 p.m.
It is necessary to be in good physical condition since the walk is 1h30-2h, going from 3870m to 4200m.
During the first half hour, the path is flat and then it is a constant climb to the lake.
